Latium (Lazio) is a region in Central Italy, on the Tyrrhenian side of the peninsula, except for a small strip on the Adriatic side. Lying to the west on the Tyrrhenian Sea, this region borders to the north with Tuscany, with Umbria and for a short stretch with the Marches. To the east Latium borders with Abruzzo and briefly with Molise and with Campania to the south; within its present limits it has not, however, geographical unity.
History. The morphology of Latium is very complex but four main sub-regions can be defined: the Tyrrhenian coast, the inland plains, the mountains of the Latium Pre-Apennines and a true Apennine area. The coast is mainly low and uniform, broken only by the spurs of Linaro point, Mount Circeo (541 m.) and the Gaeta headland: the Ponzian Islands, which are part of Latium, lie opposite the south coast.

Sciando nel Parco - Frosinone nel Lazio
Sui monti del Parco Nazionale d'Abruzzo, che cingono la splendida Valle di Comino, si trovano anche due stazioni sciistiche: sono quella di Forca d'Acero (1374 metri di quota) e di Prati di Mezzo (1450 m.), che oltre a belle discese permettono lunghe escursioni con gli sci di fondo tra le faggete e i pianori di questi angoli naturali fortemente protetti.
Forca d'Acero si trova proprio al confine con l'Abruzzo, a 10 km. di strada di montagna da S. Donato Val di Comino, paese che ha puntato molto sulle sue risorse naturalistiche e storico-culturali. E' infatti molto ben conservato il borgo medievale, adagiato sul pendio ripido della montagna e dominato da una torre quadrangolare. Strade, porte, chiese mantengono l'antica atmosfera, entro cui e' facile immergersi: nel centro storico si dipanano infatti diversi percorsi corredati di cartelli e informazioni, cosi che il turista puo' da solo conoscere a fondo la storia del paese.
