The island is bounded by the Tyrrhenian Sea to the north, the Ionian to the east and the Sicilian Sea to the south-west; the Strait of Messina separates it from Calabria.

Iles Eoliennes - Le Tour de l'Ile en voiture
On laisse Lipari en direction de Marina Lunga et l’on prend, à gauche, la route panoramique qui conduit à Canneto (en poursuivant tout droit après Marina Lunga, un tunnel permet de traverser le promontoire en peu de temps, mais là il faut renoncer au panorama). Les lacets remontent les collines entre les habitations et les villas éoliennes, en laissant apercevoir, par moments, des vues de la forteresse du Château et de la partie méridionale de l’île. Le bourg de Canneto, le long de la plage homonyme et magnifique, a été conçu pour accueillir les familles des ouvriers qui travaillaient dans les carrières de pierre ponce situées aux alentours. Au bout du pays, à gauche, la route fait une déviation et remonte jusqu’au quarier de Lami; cet endroit offre une vue magnifique sur les îles ainsi que la possibilité d’une brève excursion jusq’au crêt du cratère des Rocche Rosse.
